Child Labor. . . Works for Me!

First, I have to insert a disclaimer. We don't own this house. So there isn't really anything we can do about this issue. (According to hubby.) This is so embarrassing. . . . .

Before you see it, I suggest you put down your coffee and swallow any food you might be chewing. We're all about safety in this house.

Aaaaaggggggghhhhhhhh!

Hubby says this is a problem due to the way the dishwasher backs up into the sink. (or something to that effect.) Our sink is the double basin kind and this is the side that doesn't have the garbage disposal. I only use it to hold our rinsed, dirty dishes as they are awaiting their turn in the dishwasher. It normally has the little drain guard that catches any larger bits that try to escape and underneath that it grows this disgusting black slimy stuff and I have to clean it every week or so. Bleuch!!!

And, of course, when I say that 'I have to clean it' what I really mean is 'I make my kids clean it'. The first time I showed Reese my 'cool trick' with the sink I thought his eyes would pop clean out of his head!

Put about 1/4 cup of baking soda in your disgusting drain.

Pour in about 1/2 cup of vinegar. (or more if you want a good show! And if you are a REALLY cool mommy, you could add food coloring before the vinegar.)

Enjoy the bubble show!

Better do it again, just to get it really clean!

BUBBLES! Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles, bubbles, bubbles! (Sorry, too much Finding Nemo.)

Wipe it clean with a paper towel!

Clean, shiny drain and I didn't have to lift a finger! It even effervescents it's way down the pipe and clears out all that gunk you can't reach. (And, bleuch! Why would you want to? Yuck!) Works for me!! Now, pop on over to We Are That Family to see what works for everyone else!

Oh, and one last thing! A big Public Display of Affection to my hubby for getting the flashlight out of the bathroom drain! You are the MAN!

Did you know you can also use alka seltzer and if you save orange and lemon peels you can chop them up in little pieces and make a baking soda and water ice cube with pieces of the peel in each cube. Plop3 or 4 down the garbage disposal side and it cleans the pipes really good and leaves a nice citrus smell.
